Sam & Bob

In this blog, I will talk through this ridiculously chill & fun wedding day in Sloans Glasgow to give you an idea of what happens at a full day wedding between 2 venues.
The brief for Sam & Bob’s wedding was family, children and candid, lots of candid!! Bob (like a lot of men!) isn’t hugely comfortable having his photo taken, and they really wanted the kids involved! It’s so important to talk to your couple about what they want from their photography, rather than steaming in to get what you want! Obviously I make suggestions, but everything is about the couple and their needs!
As with all full day weddings, I show up when hair and makeup arrive, so I have as much time as possible to capture the prep, the details shots, and the dress shots.
On this occasion, the girls were all getting ready at the Fraser Suites in the City Centre, a short walk from the venue. This was a hugely family-oriented wedding, with Sam & Bob’s 2 little girls as Flower Girls, plus some nieces & nephews too. Oh and their 2 doggo’s came along for some photos too!
The ceremony was in Sloansm which is Glasgow’s oldest bar & restaurant, starting life as a coffee house back in 1797! It’s now now a Glasgow institution, famous for their legendary Mac ‘n’ Cheese (I can vouch for this, it’s incredible!), beautiful fairy-lit courtyard & stunning Grand Ballroom.

The Beginning….
I arrived at the Fraser Suites about 8am and hair & make-up was in full swing because there was quite a few girls to beautify! These serviced apartments overlook the rooftops of Glasgow’s Argyle Street and the girls had the Penthouse, which meant there was a balcony and incredible urban views for the first part of the day!
In between capturing some lovely candid photos of the girls getting ready, and the little people being little people, I spent a fair bit of time capturing ring shots, detail shots and dress shots. And at every wedding, I always try to get a dress steaming shot, they’re a favourite capture for me!
You’ll see a pattern for this wedding, and that is that it was FUN!! There was nothing traditional about it, and that’s such a brucey bonus for me!
The Middle….
Once everyone was ready, I went with a few bridesmaids in the car, and if you’ve ever driven in Glasgow City Centre, you’ll know its a freaking nightmare of one way’s and bus lanes! I needed to get to the venue before Sam arrived so I could check the ceremony room for lighting, meet Bob and chat with the celebrant!
This is a decision I’ll regret forever because I missed Sam and her sister Sara hitting a bat for a shot! Gutted!!
The kids were all hunkered down in a little room and were all gifted little bracelets to mark the occasion, then it was onto the ceremony! The flower girls did an amazing little choreographed dance down the aisle (told you is wasn’t traditional!) and the littlest didn’t really fancy being in the spotlight! It was a beautiful ceremony….and it was time to paaaartay!
The Bridal shots
This wedding was one of the partiest weddings I’ve ever shot, and the most fun! Once Sam & Bob had spent a little time mingling, we took them and the bridal party down to Buchanan Street for some bridal shots.
The piper piped them from Sloan’s, around the corner to one of the busiest streets in Glasgow for some group shots, and the next bit could NOT have been more brilliant! There was a Pipe Band (The Isle of Arran Music School Pipe Band) playing just up the street, and word has it that the Groomsman paid them £100 to come and pipe for Sam & Bob! Well….if this isn’t every photographers dream, I don’t know what is! The Pipe Band played a few tunes while Sam & Bob danced on Glasgow’s Buchana Street and they gathered quite the crowd! For a couple who mainly wanted candid photos, this could not have gone better!
The Speeches & Pre-party Party….
If I thought the time on Buchanan Street was fun, this part took the biscuit! I have never been to a wedding where the guests were dancing on the table before the desert was even served! And that’s why I loved this wedding so much!
After some super emotional and funny speeches, and after they’d eaten most of their meal, the Boogie Bingo began, and oh, my, Lord!!! Hosted by the hilarious Shane Nolan and Tony Mack, they had the entire place playing, dancing and laughing! Look away if rude inflatables offend you!
The end…
It wasn’t over yet!! Once the puddings had been eating, the Party Party started! But before I let them loose on the dance floor, I persuaded them to let me take them for a micro shoot in the Arygle Arcade, which we were permitted access to even though it was closed!
And then it began! An incredible speech from Sam including a money gun and confetti started the proceedings! The beauty of this wedding was that I’d already got plenty party shots, so I managed a few more groups before I left, happy as a pig in poop!
What an incredible day!
